Top Health Benefits of Turmeric

I have only recently found out about the amazing benefits of this golden spice - Turmeric! But I can promise you it has helped me get through this Winter pretty much free from the nasty flu.

Turmeric is the popular yellow spice that is used in Indian curries. The Indian nation has known for centuries how beneficial it can be in your diet and it's about time the rest of the world finds out too.

Turmeric Health Benefits

Here are some top benefits of the spice:

Turmeric contains bioactive compounds with powerful medicinal properties

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in Turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. Some people say it is more effective than prescription drugs.

Turmeric gradually increases antioxidants in your body

This is one of its greatest claims to fame. Oxidative damage is one of the mechanisms responsible for ageing and many diseases. Curcumin in Turmeric can protect free radicals by neutralizing them. Thereby keeping you younger for longer.

Turmeric helps lower cholesterol

Studies show using turmeric to season your food can significantly lower blood cholesterol levels and suppress plaque build up in the arteries, which are essential to preventing cardiovascular issues.

Turmeric can help control diabetes

Turmeric boosts glucose control. It also lowers resistance to insulin, which can help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.

Curcumin may be useful in preventing & treating Altzheimer's Disease

Altzheimer's is the most common neuro degenerative disease in the world and a leading cause of dementia. There is still no cure for the disease so prevention is definitely key. It is known that inflammation and oxidative damage play a role in Altzheimer's disease and curcumin has beneficial effects on both.

These are just a few of the amazing health benefits of Turmeric, there are quite a few more. I have a quarter teaspoon of it every day in my lemon, honey and hot water in the morning. However you can find it in tablet form at most pharmacies.
